Sustainability & Environment

At Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda, we take concrete measures in a number of areas to use resources responsibly and reduce our environmental impact. These include our organic cuisine and regional sourcing as well as measures relating to energy, water, lighting and the hotel grounds.

Products and Suppliers
95% of the food we use is organic. Our organic products come from certified organic farming and are inspected by an approved organic certification body. Our certification number is DE-ÖKO-060.

Wherever possible and appropriate, we work with regional suppliers and producers to keep transport distances as short as possible. Our in-house organic bakery produces a variety of breads and rolls as well as sweet and savoury baked goods every day. Our own organic butcher’s shop complements this in-house production.

Architecture and Use of Resources
When developing and modernising our hotel, we aim to preserve and continue using existing building structures wherever possible. We also take measures to reduce the use of resources in other areas. Our printed materials are produced on FSC-certified paper, we use water-saving shower heads throughout the hotel and rainwater cisterns form part of our water management.

Nature and Hotel Grounds
Meadows, herb-rich areas, green roofs and other landscaped spaces on our grounds provide habitats for plants and animals. A bee hotel and the wild rabbit habitat located on the hotel grounds are also maintained and protected.

For our outdoor lighting, we use BEGA BugSaver® technology in selected areas, with reduced-blue-light amber illumination designed to be more insect-friendly. Waste is separated in various areas of the hotel, and we use biodegradable cleaning and laundry products in selected applications.

Energy and Mobility
A photovoltaic system on the roof of our event complex generates solar power and contributes to our energy supply. We also operate our own combined heat and power unit for heat generation. Surplus electricity is fed back into the public grid.

The hotel’s lighting has been converted to LED technology. We also use our own fleet of electric vehicles for operational journeys.

Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda has received several awards for its commitment. In 2025/2026, the hotel received its sixth revalidation as a GREEN BRANDS Germany certified brand.
